Description
Named for the town of origin east of Istanbul, Hereke rugs crafted with a pile of wool and silk were created for grand palace decor or as prayer rugs. Silver and gold threads adorned the design details and added a shimmer to the already elegant field. Ottoman sultans often presented Hereke rugs as gifts to visiting royalty and statesmen. The double-knotted precision allows for a distinctive design display, which is often the reason why these rugs were so prominently featured in places of royalty.

Harmonious patterns and careful color combinations offer a level of sophistication that is synonymous with the Turkish rug. The ""Flower of the Seven Mountains"" is the most common Hereke motif which is a not to Istanbul build on seven hills. This contemporary Hereke does not hesitate to depict the detailed scrollwork and elegant beauty of its ancestors.
