Description
Originating in or near Kerman (or Kirman) in southern Iran, these rugs date back to the 16th century. A wide variety of rugs were produced in the 16th and 17th centuries, all boasting sophisticated, well-organized designs including vases, shrubs, and gardens. The asymmetrical knotting of wool with silk or cotton in between produced a double-warped rug with an almost three-dimensional appearance.

The coloring of a Kerman rug was among the most vibrant and varied of Persian rugs. The late 19th and 20th centuries saw a resurgence of Kerman rugs presenting a diverse mixture of designs and depictions, yet still displaying the asymmetrical style. This semi-antique collectors rug is no exception, exuding the richness of its history in the intricate design and color combination.
