Description
Designated as a holy city situated in East Iran in the province of Khorasan, Mashad has been producing elegant rugs since the sixteenth century. The distinction of the Mashad rug is that it is constructed of both cotton and wool, rather than one or another. Beginning with a cotton foundation and followed by a wool pile, the construction creates a distinctive texture that is plush and cozy, yet durable.

Similar to Kashan rugs, the Mashad does offer some distinctions for true collectors. The bold Mashad color palette often displays ivory, scarlet, and navy, often with a dye so vivid the scarlet can appear as magenta. The Persian Mashad tends to be large in size with an elaborate central medallion. This contemporary version of the Mashad is configured in a large runner shape with scrolling pendant designs throughout, rather than focusing on one central medallion. The result is a beautifully modern representation of rich history.
