When my boyfriend moved to San Francisco (tear) the first thing I helped him tackle was furnishing his room. Once he got through the stress of finding a place and moved in with four guys, we went to work finding everything he would need…the guy moved out there with only his clothes so we had to start from the ground up. So fun but also so challenging. He told me that he wanted something simple but not girly, not too white but not overly colorful, definitely masculine but not an all dark and leather situation. I had some ideas for bedding (Biscuit, obviously) but before we got into the colors and materials for furniture I thought, “We need to start with an area rug.”
Based on his “wish list” and after consulting with my go-to girl for all things interiors, I determined that an oriental rug would be a pretty perfect option. It’s traditional but when mixed with tailored and more streamlined pieces (like the ones in the inspirational images above) it really anchors a room. I spent a good amount of time scouring the Medallion Rug site (so many options) for the perfect size and look we were going for and found something perfect…all their area rugs are handmade and hand-woven, basically each one of a kind and tons are added to the site daily. We ended up with this one, but unfortunately once we scooped it up it was ours and no longer available. But there are seriously so many good choices in all sizes and various color combinations.
I plan on getting photos of the room the next time I’m in SF and all the furniture is in and artwork is up…it’s been so fun helping my guy make his new city feel homey! If you start decorating with a rug, you can have just a mattress on the floor (like how my boyfriend was living) and the room still looks good, haha.
